Priority access to Ocado's Christmas slots was decided on 1 September. If you were not a Smart Pass member by then, joining now does not buy you a place in the early release.
Ocado Christmas delivery slots are released in two waves, and which wave you are in was settled on 1 September. Ocado's own help centre is unambiguous: "Smart Pass customers who signed up before 1st September 2026 will get early access to Christmas slots before general release." That date has passed. Joining Smart Pass today still gets you the year-round benefits, but it does not put you in the early release for this Christmas.
Ocado splits the Christmas slot release into a priority window and a general one. Its help article on early access sets the rule and the caveat in the same breath.
As a part of their membership, Smart Pass customers who signed up before 1st September 2026 will get early access to Christmas slots before general release. These slots get booked up really quickly, so we can't guarantee everyone will get one. We recommend you book your slot as soon as you're notified that they're available.
Two things follow that people miss. The first is that the cut-off is a membership date rather than a purchase date, so it cannot be bought retrospectively. The second is that priority is access, not a reservation. Ocado says plainly that it cannot guarantee everyone gets one, so being in the early wave still means competing.
Its article on booking a Christmas slot repeats the structure and adds the practical instruction: priority for Smart Pass members who joined before 1 September, then "all customers will be able to book as part of the general slot release", and "Keep an eye on the slot booking page on the website or app to see when Christmas slots are available for you."
That last sentence is the whole problem for everybody in the second wave. The instruction is to watch a page.
This one genuinely surprises people who have paid for the pass. From Ocado's Smart Pass article: there are two passes, an Anytime Pass for deliveries seven days a week and a lower-cost Midweek Pass for Tuesday to Thursday, and then the exception.
The only exception is Christmas week (20th–24th December), when Smart Pass delivery benefits are suspended.
So the pass buys you earlier access to book the slot, and then stops covering the delivery charge for the week you were booking. Both things are true at once, and the same page states the access benefit just as clearly: "We can't guarantee you a Christmas delivery slot, but if you're a Smart Pass member, we'll give you access to them before anybody else."
Because Ocado gates them to a delivery window rather than selling them all year. Its own explanation is worth reading before you conclude something has sold out.
Some of our Christmas products are only available for delivery over specific periods in the lead-up to Christmas. So, you'll only see them as in stock if you're adding to or editing a Christmas order, or adding to a non-Christmas order, in late November/early December.
This is the single most useful thing on this page for anyone watching Ocado automatically. An item reading as unavailable in September is not evidence of anything. It will read as available once you are editing an order inside the right window, and that has nothing to do with how much stock exists. Any tool that treats the two as the same thing will tell you a product came back when all that changed was the date.
Worth knowing because it solves the ordinary version of this problem. Ocado Reserved is described as a free, recurring delivery service that holds a repeating slot for you: "We'll automatically book that slot for you 29 days in advance to make sure you get it. Then, 14 days before your delivery, we'll create a suggested order based on what you usually buy."
For a weekly shop that removes the booking race altogether. It is not a Christmas mechanism, and Ocado does not present it as one, but if the reason you are reading this is that you never get the slot you want on an ordinary week, it is the answer rather than Smart Pass.
Accept which wave you are in
If you were not a Smart Pass member before 1 September 2026, you are in the general release. Paying now does not change that for this year, though it does change it for next.
Watch the public Christmas pages, not the slot picker
The booking page itself sits behind your account, so no third party can watch it for you. Ocado's public Christmas hub and its help articles do change when booking opens, and that change is a real signal.
Have the account ready before you need it
Card on file, address confirmed, basket started. Ocado's own advice is to book as soon as you are notified, and the difference between people who get a slot and people who do not is usually the two minutes spent finding a card.
Do not read a September out-of-stock as a sell-out
Christmas lines are time-gated. They appear when you are editing an order in the right window, which is late November or early December by Ocado's own description.
Set Ocado Reserved for the ordinary weeks
It is free and it books 29 days ahead automatically, which is a better fix for the everyday slot problem than anything you can do by refreshing.
On the tooling: StockWatch's Ocado monitor watches the clearance catalogue for markdowns rather than delivery slots, on the Standard plan at £4 a month. Slots are behind a login and we do not pretend otherwise. What a monitor can do here is watch the public pages for the moment the wording changes, which is the earliest notice anyone outside Ocado gets. How restock alerts work in the UK covers the general shape of that, and why alerts arrive too late is worth reading before you rely on email for something this time-sensitive.
In two waves. Smart Pass members who signed up before 1 September 2026 get early access before general release, then all customers can book in the general slot release. Ocado has not published a public date for either wave and tells customers to keep an eye on the slot booking page.
Not for this Christmas. Ocado's help centre ties priority to having signed up before 1 September 2026, so joining after that date puts you in the general release.
No. Ocado says it cannot guarantee you a Christmas slot, only that Smart Pass members get access before anybody else, and that slots get booked up really quickly.
Not during Christmas week. Ocado states that Smart Pass delivery benefits are suspended from 20 to 24 December, which is the one exception to the pass.
Usually because they are time-gated rather than sold out. Ocado says some Christmas products are only available for delivery over specific periods, so they only show as in stock when you are adding to or editing a Christmas order, or ordering in late November or early December.
