Ocado Clearance: Where the 75% Markdowns Actually Are

Ocado's clearance labels carry the was price, so a 75% cut is written on the tin. The catch is that clearance is the last of the stock, and nothing tells you when something lands in it.

Ocado clearance keeps the old price attached to the offer, so you are not guessing at the discount. Read on 8 September 2026, the clearance section carried labels including "Clearance: Now £9.60, was £24" and "Clearance: Now £3.75, was £15". That second one is 75% off and £11.25 back in your pocket. The problem is the word clearance. It means the last of the stock, and Ocado sends you nothing when a line drops into it.

  • Clearance offers are labelled with the previous price, so the saving is stated rather than inferred. "Clearance: Now £9.60, was £24" is 60% off.
  • It is not only food. On 8 September 2026 the clearance subcategories were Home & Cleaning, Beer, Wine & Spirits, Beauty & Wellbeing, Baby & Kids, Food Cupboard, Frozen and Pet.
  • The Ocado Price Promise is a different scheme. It compares your finished shop against tesco.com and emails a voucher afterwards.
  • That voucher is capped at £10, so a single 75% clearance line can be worth more than the Price Promise pays on an entire order.
  • There is no notify-me for a markdown. Ocado tells you about clearance by putting it on a page and waiting for you to look.
  • All figures on this page were read from Ocado's own pages on 8 September 2026.

What is actually in Ocado's clearance section

Clearance sits in Ocado's category tree like any other aisle, and it has its own subcategories. On 8 September 2026 those were Home & Cleaning, Beer, Wine & Spirits, Beauty & Wellbeing, Baby & Kids, Food Cupboard, Frozen and Pet. If you have only ever thought of Ocado clearance as short-dated yoghurt, that list is worth a second look. Cleaning products, beer and beauty are where the money is, because they are the categories with a high enough shelf price for a percentage cut to be worth having.

Clearance is also different in kind from the usual aisle promotion. A three for two runs for a set period and comes back. A clearance line is being got rid of, so the stock is finite and the price is unlikely to be beaten later. A deep cut on a fixed quantity is the one worth catching quickly.

It is also different in kind from the usual aisle promotion. A three for two runs for a set period and comes back. Something in clearance is being got rid of, so the stock is finite and the price is unlikely to be beaten later. A deep cut on a fixed quantity is the one worth catching quickly.

Most supermarkets show you a promotional flash and leave the maths to you. Ocado names the offer with both numbers in it, which means the discount is checkable rather than a marketing adjective. Here are three of its own offer names, read on 8 September 2026, with the arithmetic done.

Ocado's own clearance offer labels, read 8 September 2026
Offer name as Ocado writes itWhat that works out atSaved
Clearance: Now £3.75, was £1575% off£11.25
Clearance: Now £9.60, was £2460% off£14.40
Clearance: Half Price, was £2050% off£10.00

A discount threshold means something real here. You can decide you only care about 50% or more and hold the shop to it, because Ocado has published both numbers itself.

The Price Promise is a good scheme, and it will not catch this

Ocado runs a price match called the Ocado Price Promise. It is worth having and it is worth understanding, because a lot of people assume it covers them for anything price related. It does not cover this.

Every time you place an order, we check the combined price of all like-for-like products you've had delivered against what you would have paid for an equivalent order at tesco.com, including promotions and Clubcard prices.
Ocado Price Promise terms, read 8 September 2026

The comparison there is against Tesco, not against Ocado's own prices last week. It happens on a shop you have already had delivered, so it is a rebate rather than a heads up. And Ocado says it will "aim to send all Ocado Price Promise vouchers within 72 hours of a shop being delivered", with the voucher capped: "You will receive a voucher with the price difference, up to the maximum value of £10." The full terms add that the voucher "will be valid for 21 days following receipt", and that tobacco and vape products, stage 1 baby formula and postage stamps are excluded.

So the scheme tops you up by at most a tenner after the fact, on a Tesco comparison, on products carrying the red value symbol. It says nothing at all about a £24 item on Ocado being £9.60 this morning. Those are two different questions and only one of them has a scheme behind it.

Why clearance is hard to catch by looking

Checking by hand fails for a dull reason. You have to be looking at the moment something appears, and the deepest cuts are the ones most likely to be gone by the evening. Nobody sensibly refreshes a supermarket category page all day, so what actually happens is you look on Saturday, see whatever survived the week, and never find out what was there on Tuesday.

There is no email to sign up for either. Ocado publishes the clearance page and that is the whole notification system. The same gap turns up at most shops, and it is the reason restock and price alerts exist at all.

Watching Ocado for markdowns instead

  1. Add an Ocado monitor

It reads Ocado's own offer data rather than diffing a screenshot, so it sees the was price and the now price the same way the site does.

  2. Set a minimum discount

Because both prices are published, a threshold like 50% or more is exact. Set it high and you get a handful of alerts worth acting on rather than every 10p off a tin of beans.

  3. Narrow it with keywords if you want to

If you only care about coffee, nappies or gin, filter to those and ignore the rest of the shop.

  4. Send it somewhere you actually read

Discord or Telegram beat email when the stock is finite. Email is fine for a weekly skim and slow for anything else.

On StockWatch, Ocado deals are covered by the Standard plan at £4 a month, which watches the whole shop rather than one page. Worth reading first: why restock alerts arrive too late applies just as much to a price cut, and how to monitor a website for changes covers the general version if you want to watch a shop we have no plugin for.

Does the Ocado Price Promise cover clearance items?

The Price Promise compares your delivered shop against an equivalent order at tesco.com, including promotions and Clubcard prices, and pays the difference as a voucher capped at £10. It is a comparison with another supermarket, not a guarantee about Ocado's own price changes, so it is not the thing that tells you a line has been cleared at 75% off.

How much can an Ocado Price Promise voucher be worth?

Up to £10. Ocado's terms say you receive "a voucher with the price difference, up to the maximum value of £10", it is aimed at you within 72 hours of delivery, and it is valid for 21 days after you receive it.

Does Ocado email you when something goes into clearance?

No. There is no notify-me for a markdown. The clearance page is published and it is up to you to look, which is why people either check it obsessively or miss it entirely.

Is Ocado clearance only food?

No. Read on 8 September 2026, the clearance subcategories were Home & Cleaning, Beer, Wine & Spirits, Beauty & Wellbeing, Baby & Kids, Food Cupboard, Frozen and Pet. The non-food categories tend to carry the larger cash savings, because the starting prices are higher.

How big do Ocado clearance discounts get?

Their own labels on 8 September 2026 included "Clearance: Now £3.75, was £15", which is 75% off. Half price is common enough to have its own offer naming. Because the previous price is part of the offer name, you can check any claim yourself rather than taking a badge at face value.

Can you get Ocado price drop alerts?

Yes, though not from Ocado. An Ocado price drop alert has to come from something watching the shop on your behalf, because the retailer publishes its clearance page and offers no notification of its own. Because both the old and new prices are published, an alert can be filtered to a real discount threshold rather than firing on every small adjustment.
